CME: The Use of Dynamic Parameters in Perioperative Fluid Management

ACCREDITATION EXPIRED: February 28, 2015

Activity Description / Statement of Need:

In this online CME self-learning program:

Concepts in perioperative fluid management have changed dramatically since the 1940’s, however, current practices are often based in traditional assumptions and are not often patient specific. This session reviews key historical concepts as a precursor to the rational for goal directed therapy and the physiologic rationale for use of volume responsiveness dynamic parameters in the management of the critically ill perioperative patient. Evidence supporting the use of goal directed therapy for improving both patient and economic outcomes is discussed.

Agenda:

  • -      Overview and brief history of perioperative patient management
  • -      The case for aggressive, perioperative goal-directed therapy
  • -      Dynamic parameters in the setting of perioperative patient management
  • -      Patient case(s)
  • -      Summary of the evidence

Target Audience:

This program has been designed for a multidisciplinary physician and nurse audience including: Emergency Medicine / ICU / Anesthesia / Peri-op / Intensivists / Trauma / Critical Care
