The use of a pre-emptive strategy of hemodynamic monitoring and coupled therapy reduces surgical mortality and morbidity. Dr. Cannesson discusses current practices and makes suggestions for practice improvements. He suggests that relying on basic hemodynamic monitoring is not enough to get the full hemodynamic picture, that using mini Invasive and cardiac output monitors while applying Goal Directed Therapy (GDT) protocol have potential to improve patients’ outcome. Dr. Cannesson concludes that decision support system and closed loop systems need to be implemented in clinical practice.
