Stress has been linked to all the leading causes of death, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, accidents, and suicide.

Almost 90 percent of all visits to primary healthcare providers are due to stress-related problems.

It is estimated that 1 million Americans miss work due to stress-related complaints.

Transcendenal Mediitation (TM) has been shown to prevent and treat stress related disorders.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session the participant will be able to:

  • Describe and discuss the impact of stress on physical and mental health.
  • Describe and discuss physiological and biochemical changes occurring during the Transcendental Meditation technique that indicate deep relaxation.
  • Explain the neurophysiological (EEG) findings during the TM technique and how those findings correlate with mental functions that are adaptive to stress.
  • Describe and discuss published research on the effects of TM practice on anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Describe and discuss published research findings on reduction of high blood pressure and improvement in cardiovascular outcomes through TM practice.
